Golf Cart/ATV Use on Public Roads Survey

The City of La Center is evaluating permitting Golf Carts, Side-by-sides and ATVs to use local roadways within the City. Cities around the State, US and world allow Golf Carts and ATVs to use low-speed roadways. In Washington State Golf Carts and ATVs are regulated separately.

If permitted, Golf carts will be allowed on City streets in a designated golf cart zone. Streets in this zone must be 25 MPH or less. Drivers of Golf Carts must be at least 16 years old and have completed driver’s education. Drivers with a suspended or revoked license may not operate Golf Carts on the roadway. To be legal, Golf Carts must be equipped with reflectors, seat belts and mirrors. Use of Golf Carts may be prohibited after dark, and the City May require a cart inspection including a fee.

Wheeled ATVs including Quads and Side-by-Sides may be allowed on City streets with a speed limit of 35 MPH or less. Drivers of Wheeled ATVs must hold a Driver’s License, and drivers and passengers must wear a helmet, or the vehicle must be equipped with seatbelts and an enclosed seating area. License tags for wheeled ATVs are issued by the State Department of Licensing.
