Community

What was once known as a sleepy town, has now awaken to a wondrous community that enjoys the great outdoors of our surrounding lush forest and wetlands.

Nestled at the heart of the city are several parks including the Sternwheeler Park & Amphitheatre where you can listen and watch the live series “Concerts in the Park” on Saturdays during the summer.

Children enjoy the summer splash pad and playground structure at Holley Park, and while you are there, bring a picnic basket to enjoy the grassy areas and picnic tables or grab a hotdog at the concession stand while you catch a game or two of Little League baseball.

Take in the morning with a game of tennis or shoot some hoops, and if that isn’t enough, kids and adults alike can enjoy some skateboarding across the street.  Pollock Park offers water recreation such as kayaking or hike along the creek at Breeze Creek Trail.

Though small, our downtown is growing vibrantly with restaurants, a boutique, bakery shop, small markets, barber shop, and dog grooming.  Grab a beverage at the little coffee shop and explore the many activities planned throughout the year for the community such as “Our Days Sternwheeler Celebration”, City of La Center “Christmas Festival”, “Miss La Center Teen Pageant”, Annual Cornhole Tournament, and the Rainbow Walk.  During the summer, patrons take advantage of the weekly farmer’s market and the end of the summer car show, where most vendors offer locally grown produce and flowers and artesian wears.

Have luck on your side?  Have some fun at the local card rooms and enjoy a meal at one of their restaurants. Want to know more about the City of La Center and its history?  Visit the La Center Historical Museum or our local library.

The city is growing with new housing developments and neighborhoods are filled with more parks and trails to explore.  It’s a great place to raise a family with offerings of preschool, elementary, a new middle school, and high school.

The city is dog friendly and welcomes your furry friends.  Through community, nature, and activities, you will never want to leave our growing city!
