La Center University
La Center University is a five-course series open to any individual wanting to learn more about the functions of their local City government. Through these free courses, ‘students’ are able to engage with city staff and become further involved with the success and future of La Center.
The first installment of La Center University began in January 2025, with classes on the first Monday of each month. The first session of courses brought over 50 participants. The graduation commencement, which occurred on May 5, 2025, saw 25 graduates. The second installment of sessions in 2026, saw 24 graduates! Those who attended all five courses were eligible for graduation and received a La Center University diploma.
The five core topics of this series included; city administration, municipal finance, community planning and land use, public works, and public safety. Recordings of each session are available for viewing below. While the sessions are accessible online, ‘students’ are encouraged to attend the courses in-person at city hall so they can ask questions, receive informed answers and feedback, and participate in activities.
