Introducing La Center University

Join us for a five (5) course series of workshops with topics ranging from city administration, open public meetings act, municipal finance, revenues, budget process, community planning, building/permitting, public works, public safety and law enforcement.


Courses

*Complete all five (5) courses to receive your La Center University diploma

January 6, 2025: City administration, form of government, OPMA, and PRA .

February 3, 2025: Municipal finance (general fund, enterprise funds), budget process and principles, revenues and options, debt.

March 3, 2035: Community planning, land use, building/permitting, economic development

April 7, 2025: Public works: streets, parks, facilities, operations, utilities (stormwater, wastewater, utilities provided by other entities)

May 5, 2025: Public safety: law enforcement, municipal court, fire, EMS


All courses will take place on the first Monday of each month at La Center City Hall, 210 E 4th St, La Center, Washington, 98629, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.


La Center University is open to any individual wanting to learn more about the functions of their local City government. Through these free courses, ‘students’ will be able to engage with City staff and become further involved with the success of our City.

Walk-in students are welcome but please sign-up in advance for guaranteed placement.

These classes are limited to in-person at La Center City Hall, with recordings made available after.
